I got the Star switched over from Mambo to Joomla, then went on a spree of adding modules and components that weren't compatible with Mambo. Joomla has some oddities, but all is stable now. Which brings me to Joomla 1.5, the new version that has not been quite released yet. I'm trying it on the ABDKV site -- there are some things that are very different, but I am likeing it a lot. It seems they fixed some illogical things about the ideas behind it. I think it could be nice -
For example, you can have multiple instances of modules, which gives you a lot more control. I am pretty sure this is going to mean a whole new way to handle ads, but a much better way. However, it will be a while before I can update the Star to this new version -- too much legacy stuff. It was hard enough to go from Mambo! (Well not so hard once I got into it. This did provide a nice interlude from reporting and editing, though it meant I had to rush out an issue in two days because I played with the technology too long! |
